Progestasert and Levonorgestrel-20 Intrauterine System (LNG-20 IUS, MİRENA). These types of progesterone-containing IUDs reduce the amount of bleeding.

Copper IUDs

These are the most commonly used copper IUDs worldwide and in our country. The types and names are as follows: Nova T 380, Copper T 380 Multiload. They prevent unwanted pregnancy by releasing copper ions into the uterus.

Nova T 380

The copper wire is coated with silver metal to strengthen it and increase its effectiveness. Its T-shaped arms easily fit into the uterus. When placed correctly, it can remain in the uterus for many years. Copper T 380 A, also known as Paragard T 380 A, is also suitable for insertion into the uterus in a T-shape. It consists of a thin copper wire wrapped around a plastic body. It is not suitable for women with copper allergies. The duration of protection against unwanted pregnancy is ten years. If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse and an urgent need for contraception arises, a copper IUD can be inserted within 72 hours after intercourse for emergency contraception (to prevent pregnancy).

Hormonal IUD (Hormonal intrauterine system)

The most important hormonal IUDs are Progestasert and LNG-20 IUS (MIRENA). Mirena contains levonorgestrel, a synthetic progesterone. The progesterone hormone is released into the uterus in very small amounts daily from Mirena. This hormone reduces both menstrual bleeding and menstrual cramps. Progestasert needs to be replaced annually, while Mirena is effective for five years. Progestasert is not available in our country. These IUDs do not increase menstrual bleeding like copper IUDs; rather, they reduce or even prevent it. For this reason, they are preferred for women with heavy, irregular, prolonged, clotted, and painful menstrual bleeding. The amount of progesterone released from these IUDs is very low. However, other effects associated with the minimal amount of progesterone entering the systemic circulation may be observed.

How does the IUD prevent pregnancy?

The IUD causes changes in the uterus, negatively affects the movement of eggs and sperm in the fallopian tubes, and prevents pregnancy. In addition, the changes it causes in the uterus also negatively affect the sperm's ability to reach the egg. Like birth control pills, it prevents pregnancy in 99% of cases. The IUD does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS.

How Does Vaginal Laser Treatment Work?

• Low-energy laser beams are applied to all walls throughout the entire vaginal canal at 360 degrees. • These beams create microdamage in the vaginal mucosa, triggering the body's own cellular renewal.
• Collagen and elastin production increases, making the vaginal tissue more flexible and moist.

Benefits of Vaginal Laser:

• Reduces vaginal dryness and burning sensation.
• Increases vaginal elasticity and moisture levels.
• Can be a supportive solution for urinary incontinence.
• Minimizes discomfort felt during sexual intercourse.
Laser treatment is usually applied in several sessions at 3-4 week intervals, and patients can return to their daily lives immediately after the procedure.

2. Hyaluronic Acid Applications for Vaginal Dryness

Hyaluronic acid plays an important role in maintaining vaginal health, just as it does in skin care. Vaginal hyaluronic acid injections can help relieve dryness by increasing the moisture content of the vaginal tissue.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Treatment:

• Increases vaginal moisture balance.
• Restores elasticity to vaginal tissue. Increases sexual pleasure depending on the area treated.
• Eliminates discomfort during sexual intercourse.
Hyaluronic acid is applied to the vaginal area by injection, and its effects are felt by women immediately after the first session.
